| Fact- Birds are most vulnerable when on the ground from predator attackBy applying some or all of these measures you will be helping protect your garden visitors1) Put a small fence around the area you are feeding your birds from (can be plastic or wire secured with canes placed through and then pushed in to the ground) and does not have to be very tall just enough height to stop a surprise attack in that the cat has too jump over first, providing a few seconds or extra time for the birds for escape.2) Try an area that has few access points for potential attack.3) Use a less dense area as this provides cover for predators such as cats but also choose a site that has one or two shrubs that birds can fly into if startled.4) If you have unwanted neighbourhood cats visiting your garden cut off their access points try 'Prikka strips' (From B&Q, Homebase, garden centres etc) on top of fencing (help stop human intruders too).5) Use hanging feeders or bird tables that larger song birds can access as well as normal seed feeders for smaller birds. If you can help it limit feeding on the actual surface of your feeding station unless you have a protected ground feeder or a small fence.6) If you have cats and love feeding your garden birds, CatBib your cats. Remember CatBib has a 81% success rate in university conducted trials. | | | |
